BOAT TRIPS

It’s hard to believe but it’s more than 30 years since Fungie the friendly dolphin started delighting visitors to Dingle Bay. Now commemorated by a brass statue outside the Dingle Tourist Office, Fungie has made Dingle Bay his home, swimming alongside boats and leaping into the air when he is feeling particularly active. No trip to Dingle would be complete without a boat trip to see Fungie in his natural habitat—the marina in Dingle, directly across the road from the Dingle Bay Hotel.

Apart from trips to see Fungie, you can tour Dingle Harbour and admire the stunning coastline from a different angle. Or you could take a Blasket Island eco tour, a fascinating three or four-hour guided trip around the Blasket Islands. These trips are limited to ten or 12 passengers, so you are assured of a personalized experience with knowledgeable guides to tell you about what you are seeing all around you. Cruise among the rich wildlife, from puffins and gannets to seals and porpoises. Keep an eye out for whales and unusual bird species on the outer islands.

You can also hire a boat to go sea angling or design your own trip with a private charter. There are several licensed companies operating in the marina who will give you a taste of the sea air on one of their boat trips. Boats depart at regular intervals every day, all year round, if the weather allows it. We would be delighted to direct you at the Dingle Bay Hotel.

For active kids, there’s lots to do: Local stables will bring riders of all abilities (and none) horse riding along the beach. Then there’s surfing at Inch Beach. Or you could all rent bikes and cycle around Slea Head. You’ll soon discover that Dingle was made for families.
